Dear Parents:

Mathematics

This week, we introduced the concept of division. Students explored how division relates to multiplication and practiced dividing numbers into equal groups. To reinforce these skills, please encourage your child to practice basic multiplication and division facts up to 12 × 12. Mastery of these facts will greatly assist them in solving more complex problems.

Poetry

In our poetry sessions, we focused on the element of rhyme. Students read various poems and identified rhyming patterns, enhancing their appreciation for poetic structures. They also experimented with writing their own rhyming verses, fostering creativity and a deeper understanding of language.

Physical Education

Our physical education classes centered around gymnastics and movement. Students utilized the climber and mats to practice balance, coordination, and flexibility. These activities not only promote physical fitness but also encourage teamwork and confidence.

Science

We delved into astronomy by examining two remarkable telescopes: the James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope. Students learned about their unique features, missions, and contributions to our understanding of the universe. This exploration sparked curiosity about space and the tools scientists use to study it.

Social Studies

Continuing our study of Canadian history, students engaged in a creative writing project by composing letters from the perspective of a voyageur. This activity allowed them to empathize with historical figures and express their understanding of the voyageurs' experiences during the fur trade era.

Special Visits

Calgary Flames' "Reading... Give it a Shot!" Program: We welcomed guests from the Calgary Flames Foundation, who promoted literacy through the "Reading... Give it a Shot!" program. This initiative encourages students to develop a love for reading by rewarding them with collectible cards featuring Calgary Flames players and other engaging themes. The program has been instrumental in raising reading levels and fostering a lifelong love for literacy among students.

Calgary Opera's "The Witty Squirrel" Performance: Representatives from Calgary Opera presented "The Witty Squirrel," a delightful opera about an orphaned squirrel who promises to prepare a feast for the King and his court in exchange for a set of golden teeth. This Canadian and English-language premiere introduced students to the art of opera, enhancing their understanding of musical storytelling and performance.
