Mathematics: Division Concepts
We have been diving into the world of division! Students are learning that division is repeated subtraction and are becoming familiar with important vocabulary words:

  • Quotient – the answer in a division problem

  • Dividend – the number being divided

  • Divisor – the number that divides the dividend
    We encourage students to practice division facts at home to build their confidence and fluency.

Science: Exploring Space
This week, students completed their space unit by writing a test to demonstrate their learning. They also finished their space accordion booklets, which showcase key concepts about planets, the solar system, and space exploration. Great work, everyone!

Social Studies: Alberta’s Early Settlers
Our Social Studies lessons have taken us back in time to the late 1800s as we learn about the settlers who came to Alberta. Students are discovering why people chose to settle here, the challenges they faced, and how they contributed to the development of our province.

Language Arts: Writing Strong Paragraphs
We have started learning about the structure of a paragraph. Students are exploring the importance of topic sentences and how they guide the focus of a paragraph. Understanding how to organize ideas effectively will help students become stronger writers.

Physical Education: Volleyball Skills
We have begun our volleyball unit! Students are working on developing their skills in volleying, bumping, and serving. These foundational skills will help them work towards playing structured games in the coming weeks.

 Dear Parents: 🌎 Earth Day Assembly On Tuesday, April 22, we celebrated Earth Day with a school-wide assembly. The students did a wonderful job participating and showing their commitment to taking care of our planet.  Dear Families,  Design Process Invention: Our students engaged in a fantastic project where they created inventions to solve winter problems. They collaborated, drew designs, assembled their products, and proudly shared their finished creations with the Grade 1 class. Math Learning: In math, students began learning about angles! They explored acute, obtuse, and right angles, which sparked their curiosity and creativity. Social Studies: This week, we enjoyed hearing various oral stories, including practicing the tale of "Napi and the Dog." This activity encouraged storytelling skills and cultural appreciation. Physical Education: Floor hockey brought a lot of fun and teamwork to our physical education classes, allowing students to develop their skills while enjoying friendly competition. Dear Parents/Guardians, This month in math, we are beginning an exciting new unit on fractions ! Fractions are an important concept that helps students understand parts of a whole, parts of a set, and the way numbers can be divided and shared. Here’s a quick overview of what we are learning in class and how you can support your child at home. What Are Fractions? A fraction represents a part of a whole or a part of a group. It is written with two numbers separated by a line, such as 1/2 or 3/4 . Parts of a Fraction Numerator: The top number in a fraction, which tells us how many parts we have.
