September 30-October 4

 Happy Fall!

This week we read the picture book "A Child's Guide to the Medicine Wheel".  Students became familiar with the 4 quadrants of the wheel and what each quadrant represents.  Ask them to tell you about Mind, Body, Spirit and Heart.  We also started an individualized program for literacy where students are given their own word list and are required to spell the words correctly.  They will get 2 weeks to study the words at home and complete tasks related to the words in class.  Look forward to receiving your childs word list this week.  Students are asked to study the words at home and then they will be tested on 10 of the words in 2 weeks time.  In Math we continue to work on place value.  We have been doing tasks related to thousands.  By year end, grade 4's are expected to know up to 100 000.  On Oct. 16 we will be visiting the Shepard Land Fill for an extension of our science unit on matter.  Forms went home on Thursday.  Please sign and return the forms ASAP.

Oct. 7 Terry Fox Run 1:30 pm all parents are welcome to attend. We are collecting Toonies for Terry at the end of the day, you are also welcome to donate on line if you wish.

Dec 6-13

 Dear Families,  Design Process Invention: Our students engaged in a fantastic project where they created inventions to solve winter problems. They collaborated, drew designs, assembled their products, and proudly shared their finished creations with the Grade 1 class. Math Learning: In math, students began learning about angles! They explored acute, obtuse, and right angles, which sparked their curiosity and creativity. Social Studies: This week, we enjoyed hearing various oral stories, including practicing the tale of "Napi and the Dog." This activity encouraged storytelling skills and cultural appreciation. Physical Education: Floor hockey brought a lot of fun and teamwork to our physical education classes, allowing students to develop their skills while enjoying friendly competition. Dear Parents/Guardians, This month in math, we are beginning an exciting new unit on fractions ! Fractions are an important concept that helps students understand parts of a whole, parts of a set, and the way numbers can be divided and shared.
