Welcome to our weekly grade 4 blog.  Our blog will be a place to share the learning that is happening in our classroom.  Look forward to it most Fridays.

The first two days were spent getting to know each other and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and heard.  We watched a beautiful video called What do You Hope For.  Students met with the other grade 4 class and we went outside on the compound to share our ideas using sidewalk chalk.

This year during the lunch hour our class will be eating before they go out for lunch recess.  I encourage your child to bring a non-breakable water bottle to school  to use during the day and then taking them home on a daily basis to be washed and refilled.

The grade 4 students are busy reviewing the 3 Pillars of Care, which will help build community within our classroom.  In connection with our pillar, Care For This Place, we will begin to look at the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy who creates temporary natural art.  Over the weekend, we would like the students to gather some natural artifacts that we will use to create our own 'Andy Goldsworthy' inspired nature art.  Please have the artifacts at school Wednesday, Sept. 4.  Artifacts to consider could include leaves, twigs, stones, berries, flowers, or anything else that may be found in the natural environment.  Please try not to harm anything 'living' in your search for artifacts.

I am looking forward to the school year ahead.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  jgbrox@cbe.ab.ca
